Movie Review — The Dark Knight

Movie Review — The Dark Knight

Just recently, the newest batman movie:  The Dark Knight, came on our movie channels.  I had heard about the movie, but hadn’t watched it.  So I punched it in and checked it out.  Based on what I had heard bout the movie, I wasn’t expecting much.  But I got a lot more than I expected.  It was a much better movie than I had heard it was.  My husband liked it too.  He thought it was a real good movie too.  But it wasn’t as good a movie as it could have been, and it is definitely not a movie I would let small kids watch.  I would put a 10 and up age rating on it at least.

But this movie set us to thinking and talking about all the Batman shows and movies.  The cartoons, the movies and all the actors who have played Batman on the big screen, and on television.  We both decided that our favorite batman was Adam West in the old Batman and Robin television show.  Now that’s a batman you can let your kids watch.

What disappointed me about this movie was that they didn’t introduce the Robin character, which I was hoping that they would.  It’s a good movie, as movies go, but I wouldn’t call it a great batman movie.  And it is definitely not a movie for kids.  There is too much meanness about the characters in this movie for me.  The joker character that they introduce is more than just a criminal.  He is mean and cruel and likes hurting people for the sake of hurting them.  That I didn’t care for.

In summary:  as movies go, it’s a pretty good movie.  As batman movies go, its okay; but not as good as the first one overall.  Too much deliberate meanness for my taste.  I am still waiting for them to make a really great big-screen batman movie.

I am a huge Spiderman fan so I know tons about him! However, Batman just has never been my thing. I would have to say that I was expecting to hate this movie, but actually really enjoy it! I think that it was intended for an older audience as you said, because I love scary movies yet I still thought that the joker was quite frightening!

Again, I cannot compare it to other Batman movies, but as a new age spin on old comic books I would have to say it was very different yet still interesting and attention grabbing!

misstina - like you, I was expecting to hate this movie too; yet I did like it. It was much better than I thought it would be.
